Course Offering
What does a “mixed mode” or “blended learning” approach to ALS mean?
In the 2022 CoSTR, ILCOR recommended “a blended learning as opposed to non-blended approach for life support training where resources and accessibility permit its implementation.” In response, Resuscitation Australia has developed eLearning modules for both ALS1 and ALS2 courses. Participants are required to complete these prior to the practical component of the course. This includes the face-to-face training day.
We describe our ALS courses as mixed mode because it’s not possible to complete just the eLearning or just the face-to-face training: participants are required to do both in order to successfully complete the requirements of our ALS courses.
eLearning
How long will the eLearning take me to complete?
The time required to complete the eLearning will vary depending on the individual learner, noting everyone works at their own pace. However, we suggest allowing:
- Up to 3 hours for the ALS1 eLearning (11 modules).
- Up to 6 hours for ALS2 eLearning (26 modules).
The eLearning is self-paced and self-directed, allowing you to progress at your own speed. Experienced clinicians may choose to skip some optional content, such as the full duration of embedded videos or the optional ‘deep dive’ modules. For an optimal experience, we recommend reviewing all core materials to ensure you are well-prepared for the practical components of the course.
Face to Face Training Day
How long are the ALS courses?
ALS1: Pre-course eLearning completion + half-day (4 hours) in-person training, e.g. either 8:00am – 12:00pm or 1:00pm – 5:00pm, dependent on your course provider.
ALS2: Pre-course eLearning completion + 1 day in-person training (8 hours) e.g. 8:00am – 5:00pm, dependent on your course provider.

Continuing Professional Development
I have completed my course – will Resuscitation Australia or the course centre/provider register my CPD points?
It is your responsibility as the learner to record and report your CPD with your CPD Home. For RA-accredited courses, CPD hours can be claimed for both the eLearning component and the face-to-face training day.
